Soldier stabs man to death in Delta

Tragedy struck in Delta State on Sunday evening when a soldier, yet to be identified, allegedly stabbed a young man, simply known as Ugo, to death near Plantation City Estate, close to Otokutu community in Ughelli South Local Government Area.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 7 p.m.

The victim, said to be in his early thirties, was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

According to eyewitnesses, including the deceased’s younger brother, Toshi, the altercation began when security personnel stopped them at the entrance of an estate for routine checks.

Toshi explained that his brother was attempting to call a friend within the estate to confirm his visit when the soldier accused him of trying to force his way inside. Despite Ugo’s explanations, the soldier allegedly began assaulting him.

Efforts by other visitors to calm the situation reportedly failed, as the soldier continued the attack and allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times — in the hand and the rib.

“We rushed him to the hospital, but he was confirmed dead,” Toshi recounted tearfully, urging authorities to ensure justice is served.

When contacted, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident.

“We received the complaint; that’s all I can say for now,” he stated.
