Son sets father ablaze in Delta

Tragedy struck Oghior Community in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State on Wednesday, as a young man, identified as Saturday Okutu, allegedly set his elderly father, Pa Chicago Okutu, on fire while reportedly under the influence of drugs.

Eyewitnesses said the horrific incident followed a violent confrontation between father and son.

Community sources reported that the suspect had allegedly smoked a hard drug commonly known as “Colorado” before the attack.

The dispute escalated into a physical altercation, after which the suspect allegedly set their home ablaze, resulting in the untimely death of the elderly man.

Residents of Oghior Community have been thrown into mourning, with the incident raising serious concerns over the growing abuse of hard drugs among youths in local communities.

Moses Uchere, Esq., the immediate past President-General of Oghior Community, condemned the act, calling for urgent measures to address drug abuse and increase public awareness to prevent further tragedies.

Vanguard reports that community authorities have begun preliminary investigations into the incident as details continue to emerge.

When contacted, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said he would provide an update to our correspondent but had not responded as of press time.
