Speaker Abbas secures APC ticket for fifth term in House of Reps

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket to contest for a fifth consecutive term ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Abbas emerged unopposed as the party’s candidate for Zaria Federal Constituency in Kaduna State following an affirmation exercise conducted across the 13 electoral wards in the constituency on Saturday.

The exercise took place simultaneously in wards including Kwarbai A and B, Limancin-Kona, Unguwar Fatika, Unguwar Juma, Dutsen Abba, Gyallesu, Kufena, Dambo, Wuchichiri, Tudun Wada, Tukur-Tukur and Kaura.

At Kwarbai B Ward, his polling unit, the process was conducted peacefully under the supervision of party officials and observers.

According to the ward returning officer, Iliyasu Muhammad Balarabe, Abbas was the sole aspirant who purchased nomination forms, underwent screening and was cleared by the party.

At the end of the exercise, the APC Returning Officer for the constituency, Hamisu Kubau, announced that the Speaker was affirmed by 1,376 delegates across the 13 wards.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission monitored the process, while the Chairman of the APC House of Representatives primary election committee in Kaduna State, Yakubu Oseni, described the outcome as a reflection of Abbas’ popularity in the constituency.

Reacting to his emergence, Abbas thanked party members for their continued support and pledged to deliver effective representation.

“My best days as your representative are ahead,” he said, while also urging supporters to rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, and other APC candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.

Abbas, who first entered the House in 2011 and became Speaker in 2023, is seeking to extend his legislative tenure with another term representing Zaria Federal Constituency.
