Student dies, 4 others injured as explosion rocks school in Abuja

A suspected bomb explosion, on Monday, January 6, 2025, rocked an Islamiyyah school in Kuchibiyu, Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

It was gathered that one student died while four others were injured in the incident.

The explosion, which occurred at about 1 p.m. on Monday, sent shockwaves through the serene community, located about 42 kilometres from Abuja city centre.

It was learnt that emergency services, including a police bomb disposal unit, swiftly moved to the scene, while the injured students were rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment.

A security source disclosed that the student who died was allegedly carrying an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) when it detonated.

Authorities have yet to confirm the student’s identity, and the circumstances surrounding the device remain unclear.

The FCT Police Command has however yet to speak on the incident.
