Suspected diesel thief dies in Kano

A 37-year old suspected diesel thief, identified as Mr Anthony Usihe, suffocated and eventually died in a reservoir tank powering a telecom mast in Kano State.

Usihe, a generator repairer, was unconsciously recovered from the tank by operatives of Kano State Fire Service and was later confirmed dead.

Kano State Fire Service Public Relations Officer, Saminu Abdullahi, who made the disclosure via a statement on Wednesday, said the incident occurred along BUK Road behind Dan’agundi Power Substation, Kano.

“Today being Wednesday 22th June 2022, we received an emergency call around 13:22 hrs from Sergeant Salisu Inuwa who reported an inccident at BUK road, Dan’agundi behind NEPA station, Kano Municipal.

“When our men reached the area, at about 13:26 hrs, they found that a generator engineer of about 37 years old, by name Anthony Usihe trapped inside service antenna reservoir of diesel tank with a jerrycan.

“Victim rescued unconscious and later confirmed dead,” Abdullahi said.

He added that the remains of the victim have been handed over to Sharada Police Division in Kano, noting that an investigation was ongoing.
