The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that the Shoe Materials Market in Mushin remains safe following a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion that caused panic in the area on Monday.
The Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, gave the assurance while speaking with journalists at the scene, noting that operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit were immediately deployed after the incident was reported.
According to preliminary findings, the explosive device was allegedly placed beneath the passenger side of a vehicle and detonated when the engine was started.
The police said one person sustained injuries in the explosion and is currently receiving treatment in a hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition.
Tijani disclosed that EOD experts conducted a thorough sweep of the market and its surroundings and found no additional explosive devices.

He added that remnants of the suspected device had been recovered for forensic analysis as part of ongoing investigations into the incident.
The Commissioner urged residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified reports, assuring that the Command remains committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property across Lagos State.
