The senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Tambuwal, has reassured residents following reports of an airstrike linked to ongoing counterterrorism cooperation between Nigeria and the United States.
Tambuwal, a former governor of Sokoto State, said he is in active communication with security authorities to clarify the circumstances surrounding the operation and to ensure that the safety of civilians is fully protected.
He stressed that security operations are directed at terrorists and criminal groups threatening public safety, not at innocent citizens who are already affected by insecurity.
The senator, in a statement on Friday, December 26, 2025, noted that safeguarding civilian lives remains a top priority in all lawful security actions.
“I wish to assure the people of Sokoto South that I am in active talks with relevant security authorities to obtain full details and ensure that all necessary safeguards are upheld,” he said.

Commending the military and other security agencies for their dedication, Tambuwal acknowledged their efforts to restore peace and stability, often under difficult conditions and with support from international partners.
He further appealed to community leaders and residents to work closely with security agencies by providing reliable information and avoiding misinformation that could fuel panic.
Tambuwal stated: “I also call on community leaders, traditional institutions, and residents to continue working closely with security agencies by sharing credible information and resisting misinformation that could heighten fear or tension.
“Together, through unity, vigilance, and support for lawful security efforts, we will overcome the forces of terror and secure lasting peace for Sokoto State and Nigeria at large.”
