TCN announces Sunday power outage in parts of Abuja

Residents of several parts of Abuja should expect a temporary disruption in electricity supply on Sunday as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) undertakes maintenance work at the 132kV Apo Transmission Substation.

TCN said the exercise will run from 9am to 5pm on September 6, 2026, and is aimed at carrying out transmission line maintenance involving the installation and latching of Optical Ground Wire (OPGW).

The work will be carried out on the two 132kV Katampe-Apo transmission lines between towers T130 and T132, the company said in a statement posted on X on Saturday.

According to TCN, the maintenance will affect electricity supply to Lugbe, Garki, Area 1, National Hospital, Guzape, Asokoro and neighbouring communities.

The company explained that the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) would be unable to receive electricity from the transmission network for onward distribution to customers in the affected areas during the exercise.

“Consequently, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will be unable to off-take electricity for supply to customers in Lugbe, Garki, Area 1, National Hospital, Guzape, Asokoro, and surrounding areas during the exercise,” TCN said.

TCN assured residents that power would be restored immediately after the maintenance work is completed.

“Power supply will be restored immediately after the maintenance exercise is completed,” it added.

The transmission company apologised to electricity consumers in the affected areas for the inconvenience that may arise from the scheduled outage.
