Teenager killed in Kano over N20 tricycle loading tip

A teenager, identified as Anas Ahmadu, has been killed in Kano following bickering with his co-worker over N20 tricycle loading tip.

The 19-year-old deceased was stabbed with a broken bottle in his neck which led to bleeding that eventually resulted in his death.

The incident occurred at the Coca-Cola Junction Park in the Bata area of Sabon Gari, Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State.

An eyewitness told The Star that after Ahmadu loaded passengers into a tricycle at the park and instead of getting his N20, it was handed to a nearby corn seller who refused to give him his loading tip which led to a fight between them.

“The fight was settled and both of them continued their normal business. But later the aggrieved boy came back and used a broken bottle to stab Anas on his neck near his chest, which led to his death,” the source said.

It was further learnt that the victim was rushed to the Murtala Muhammed Hospital where he was confirmed dead.

Meanwhile, the suspect was still at large as of the time of filing this report.

The father of the victim, Tijjani Ahmadu, told The Star at his residence in Giginyu area of Nasarawa LGA, that he was informed about the incident when he was at work, adding that he rushed home only to confirm that his son was dead.

He said: “He came to me in the morning and said he was off to work and I prayed for his safe return. Later, a neighbour called and requested that I should quickly come back; that all was not well.

“It was terrible for me; I don’t want to even recall it. All I want is justice for my son. I urge police and other authorities involved to intervene and fight for our right.”

Sources at the park said the parents of the suspect were traced to Sauna Kawaji area when he could not be apprehended.

The Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, confirmed that the police have made arrest, saying: “Immediately we got to the scene, the victim was rushed to the hospital where a doctor confirmed him dead. So far we have arrested one suspect and investigation has commenced to trace the main suspect for him to face the full wrath of the law.”
