Terrorists invade Zamfara community, kill DPO, 2 others

Terrorists have attacked Maru, the headquarters of Maru Local Government of Zamfara State, and killed a Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Kazeem Raheem, and two others.

It was gathered that the terrorists killed the DPO of Maru and two other victims during an attack which occurred on Saturday night.

It was learned that Raheem, a Sergeant, Rabiu Bagobiri, and one vigilante, Shehu Chuka, were killed during a gun battle with the assailants.

Confirming the incident on Sunday, the Zamfara State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Mohammed Shehu, said police operatives were in Maru for an on-the-spot assessment.

“We are currently in Maru, I will get back to you when we returned to Gusau,” Shehu said.

A resident of the community, who craved anonymity, disclosed that a yet-to-be-identified number of residents were also abducted by the gunmen during the attack.

“They abducted people, but no exact number so far, they are still searching for people that ran for their lives,” the source revealed.

Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State is about 84 kilometres from the state capital, Gusau, and is one of the LGAs in the state highly troubled by bandits.
