The King to Sunak: Form a new cabinet for Britain

Rishi Sunak has been asked to form a new administration as British Prime Minister.

The King gave the go ahead on Tuesday at a meeting with the incoming PM in London.

“The King received in Audience The Right Honourable Rishi Sunak MP this morning and requested him to form a new Administration. Mr Sunak accepted His Majesty’s offer and kissed hands upon his appointment as Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury,” the Palace said.

Sunak emerged the PM unopposed after the fall of Liz Truss who spent 44 days as PM.

The outgoing Prime Minister had earlier on Tuesday met with the King and tendered her resignation as Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury.

His Majesty graciously accepted the resignation.

“The Right Honourable Elizabeth Truss MP had an audience of The King this morning and tendered her resignation as Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury, which His Majesty was graciously pleased to accept,” the statement said.
