Tinubu appoints Gbemisola Odusote as first female DG of Nigerian Law School

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr. Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as the new Director-General of the Nigerian Law School.

According to a State House statement issued on Tuesday, the appointment takes effect from January 10, 2026, and is for a four-year term.

With the appointment, Odusote becomes the first woman to head the Nigerian Law School since it was established in 1962.

She will take over from Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose tenure ends on January 9, 2026, after eight years in office.

Odusote, 54, is currently the Deputy Director-General and Head of the Lagos Campus. She earned her LL.B at Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the Bar in 1988.

She later obtained an LL.M from the same institution, and a PhD in Law from the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom, focusing on public law and the administration of justice.

She joined the Nigerian Law School as a lecturer in 2001 and has since served in key roles, including Head of Department, Director of Academics and Head of Campus.

She has also held visiting scholar positions abroad and contributed publications to local and international law journals.

The presidency said Odusote will oversee academic leadership and administration across all campuses of the law school, while serving as a key link between the institution, the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers and the Nigerian Bar Association.
