President Bola Tinubu has condemned the attacks that claimed several lives in Angwan Rukuba district of Jos, Plateau State, and Kahir village in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, describing the incidents as “barbaric and cowardly.”
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President said the assault on innocent residents in Jos and the killing and abduction of wedding guests in Kaduna represent an affront to Nigeria’s values.
“Anyone who will sneak under the cover of the night and kill defenceless citizens as done in Jos and Kahir village is a heartless coward,” Tinubu said, warning that the attackers aim to incite retaliatory violence and escalate insecurity.
The President directed security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and clamp down on the spread of misinformation capable of heightening tensions. He also cautioned sections of the media against framing the attacks as religiously motivated without verified facts.
Tinubu reaffirmed that security operatives are already on top of the situation and called for public cooperation to support ongoing efforts. He urged communities to adhere to evacuation and relocation advisories issued for their safety.
The President commended Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang for his response in Jos, and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for aiding rescue operations. He welcomed the safe return of two abducted victims in Kaduna and ordered the immediate rescue of the remaining captives.
Tinubu also charged security agencies to strengthen preventive measures by acting on early-warning intelligence. He assured Nigerians that the government is procuring more advanced security equipment to enable real-time tracking of criminal elements.
The President extended condolences to the families of those killed and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
