Tinubu nominates Tegbe as Minister of Power

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power, pending confirmation by the Senate.

The nomination, contained in a State House statement issued on Thursday, has been formally transmitted to the National Assembly in line with constitutional provisions.

Tegbe’s nomination follows the resignation of former Power Minister, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue elective office.

The minister-designate, an indigene of Oyo State, is a fiscal and economic reform expert with over 35 years of experience across both the public and private sectors. He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led initiatives in fiscal policy reform, governance, and institutional transformation.

Tegbe currently serves as Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, coordinating engagements aimed at strengthening development cooperation between Nigeria and China.

According to the presidency, he has also been involved in key reforms within the power sector, working with institutions such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company on regulatory and institutional improvements.

The government said his nomination is expected to support ongoing efforts to reform Nigeria’s power sector, improve grid stability, and attract sustainable investment in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that Tegbe would leverage his experience to drive critical reforms and deliver improved electricity supply outcomes if confirmed by the Senate.
