Tinubu sacks Arase, appoints Argungu as PSC chairman

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of DIG Hashimu Argungu (Rtd) as the Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC).

Argungu’s appointment marked the end of the tenure of Dr Solomon Arase as the PSC chairman.

Tinubu also approved the appointment of Onyemuche Nnamani as Secretary and DIG Taiwo Lakanu (Rtd) as a Member of the PSC.

The appointments were contained in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, on Monday, June 10, 2024.

PSC appoints Abubakar DIG, promotes 122 police officers

Ngelale noted that the appointments are subject to confirmation by the Senate, adding that other members of the PSC will be appointed in due course.

The presidential spokesman stated that President Tinubu also approved the appointment of Mohammed Sheidu as the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) with immediate effect.

He said the president expects absolute demonstration of integrity, diligence, and patriotic zeal in the discharge of these important functions for the overall well-being of the Nigeria Police and the nation.
