Trader slumps, dies in Abuja market

A 47-year-old trader, identified as Comfort Abednego, has died after collapsing at the Kwaita village market in the Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

Witnesses disclosed that the trader slumped while attending to customers who came to buy garri (cassava flour) in the market at about 11:23 a.m. on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.

Witnesses disclosed that Abednego had stood up to buy a polythene bag to measure the garri when she suddenly slumped.

Market vigilantes were immediately alerted and rushed her to a nearby clinic, but the mother of three was confirmed dead on arrival.

One of the traders at the market, who helped identify her family, contacted relatives who later evacuated the body.

Dogara told Daily Trust: “We saw people gathered where she sells and discovered that she had slumped and died.

“Her relatives who came for the body told us she was hale and hearty when she left home this morning.”
