Train attack: Terrorists release Ango Abdullahi’s son

Terrorists have released one of the victims abducted during the March 28 attack on an Abuja-Kaduna-bound train.

This is coming barely a week after the terrorists released the pictures of about 62 abducted persons in captivity.

It was gathered that the released abductee is the son of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) leader, Prof. Ango Abdullahi.

A family member, who confirmed the release of Sadik Ango Abdullahi, said the NEF’s son regained freedom over the weekend after 31 days in captivity.

He further disclosed that ransom was paid for Sadik’s release.

He, however, failed to disclose the amount paid, adding that the released abductee is currently undergoing psychological rehabilitation in a private hospital.

According to the family source, Sadik was identified by his friends and relations when the terrorists released the pictures of the abducted train passengers.

He said the terrorists were unaware that Sadik was the son of the NEF leader during the negotiation for his release.

“Negotiations between the government and the terrorists for the release of our loved ones have reached an advanced stage.

“We don’t want to jeopardise the process now. We are sure the terrorists later found out who Sadik was and later decided to negotiate for his freedom,” the source disclosed.

There was no official reaction from security agencies as of the time of filing this report.

Since the abduction of the train passengers, the terrorists have released videos and pictures showing the abductees in captivity.

While the kidnapped victims and their families have called on the Federal Government to ensure the freedom of the abductees, the gunmen threatened to kill the abducted train passengers if the government did not meet their demands.

It was gathered that the assailants insisted that they were not after a ransom, but an exchange of the abducted passengers with their commanders who are allegedly in government custody.
