Transfer: Nico Williams signs 10-year contract at Athletic Bilbao as Tomiyasu leaves Arsenal

Spain winger Nico Williams has signed a new 10-year contract at Athletic Bilbao.

Williams – a target for Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Arsenal – has committed to the club until 2035.

His previous deal expired in 2027, but the new one sees a release clause increased by more than 50 per cent.

Williams, 22, helped Spain to win the Euros last summer as he scored their opener in the 2-1 final win over England.

The forward said of his new deal: “When it comes to making decisions, for me, the most important thing is to listen to your heart.

“I am where I want to be, with my people, this is my home. Aupa Athletic!”

Djordje Petrovic appears likely to remain in the Premier League with the Serbian goalkeeper set to join Sunderland in a transfer which will net Chelsea £21.5 million.

Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu will leave the club after a mutual termination of his contract, Sky Sports reported.

Tomiyasu still has a year left on his current deal, plus an option on a further year.

The 26-year-old defender has been plagued with injuries since joining the club in the summer of 2021.

Birmingham have signed Bright Osayi-Samuel on a free transfer after the expiry of his contract at Fenerbahce.

Real Sociedad have made contact to sign Argentinian midfielder Equi Fernandez from Al Qadsiah. He’s one of the main options to replace Martin Zubimendi who’s joining Arsenal, Fabrizio Romano said.

Newcastle have sent £55 million bid to Nottingham Forest for Anthony Elanga.
