Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a man identified as Shariff Umar, also known as Yusuf, who is suspected of coordinating a network behind recent bombing plots and attacks in the North-East.
The Army announced the arrest in a statement on Friday, explaining that it followed an intelligence-led operation carried out on December 31, 2025, in the Kalmari area of Maiduguri. Fourteen other suspects believed to be linked to the network were also taken into custody.
According to the statement, ongoing investigations have revealed the roles and connections within the group.
A suspect already in custody reportedly identified Umar as the leader responsible for recruiting individuals and organizing movements related to the attacks.
The Army further stated that Umar is believed to have played a central role in the December 24 incident at the Gamboru Market Mosque in Maiduguri, as well as a foiled attempt in Damaturu.
Investigators also said there are indications that some members of his household may have had knowledge of the activities.
All suspects are currently being questioned as security forces work to dismantle the wider network and trace possible collaborators.
The Army said the development highlights the importance of public cooperation with security agencies, urging residents to remain alert and report suspicious activities to help prevent future attacks and support peace efforts in the region.
