Troops foil farmer-herder clash in Kaduna

A dispute over alleged farmland encroachment in Jaba Local Government Area of Kaduna State has been resolved after security forces intervened to prevent a confrontation between farmers and herders.

The incident occurred in Nok community on Saturday, September 5, where tensions reportedly rose between members of the two groups over the disputed farmland.

Troops, alongside other security agencies, moved into the area at about 9:30 a.m. after receiving a report of the developing confrontation, according to counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama.

The deployment helped to de-escalate the situation and prevented the disagreement from turning violent.

“The intervention of the security personnel brought the situation under control and prevented the dispute from escalating,” Makama said.

Authorities later brought the parties and community stakeholders together for a peace meeting at about 11 a.m.

The meeting was attended by the Vice Chairman of Jaba LGA and other stakeholders, who worked towards resolving the disagreement and restoring calm to Nok.

The dispute was subsequently settled amicably, with normal activities returning to the community.

Security agencies are expected to continue monitoring the area to prevent renewed tensions and avert a possible recurrence of the dispute.
