Soldiers from the 177 Guards Battalion have thwarted an attempted kidnapping targeting the family of a member of the House of Representatives in Nasarawa State, military sources said.
The incident occurred at about 11:00 p.m. on Saturday at the residence of Hon. Tanko Tukura in Yelwa village, Toto Local Government Area, when suspected kidnappers stormed the premises.
According to security sources, local vigilantes repelled the attackers before troops deployed from the Toto Patrol Base arrived at the scene, forcing the suspects to flee.
Troops subsequently joined the vigilantes in a follow-up patrol along the attackers’ withdrawal route but did not make contact with the fleeing suspects.
Authorities said efforts were ongoing to track the suspects and that security measures in the area had been reinforced to forestall further attacks.
