Troops intercept 11 suspects with IED-making materials in Abuja

Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested 11 suspects allegedly transporting materials used for making improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in the Federal Capital Territory.

Security sources said the suspects—10 men and one woman—were intercepted around 12:59 a.m. on April 27 by personnel of the 176 Guards Battalion at Kuchiyako in Kuje Area Council.

They were reportedly stopped while travelling in a vehicle along the Kuchiyako–Tipper Garage road, where troops discovered items believed to be components for assembling IEDs.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects claimed they were heading to mining sites near Kabbin Mangoro in Kuje to source mineral materials.

Recovered items include explosive charges and three-and-a-half bags of unidentified mineral substances, along with other materials.

The suspects are currently in military custody as investigations continue to determine their intentions and any possible links to criminal or terrorist activities.
