Troops intercept terrorist supplier with motorcycles, 450 litres of fuel

Troops conducting counter-terrorism operations in Katsina State have arrested a suspected supplier of logistics to terrorists and recovered four motorcycles and 450 litres of Premium Motor Spirit.

The arrest was made along the Gurbi–Zurmi transit corridor linking Katsina and Zamfara states following intelligence received by troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA.

Military sources said the troops mounted a stop-and-search operation along the route and intercepted a commercial utility truck suspected of attempting to evade security checks.

A search of the vehicle reportedly uncovered four brand-new motorcycles concealed in sealed packages.

The troops also found 15 jerrycans containing 30 litres of PMS each, bringing the total quantity of fuel recovered to 450 litres.

The fuel was allegedly hidden among containers of vegetable and palm oil in an apparent attempt to disguise the consignment and prevent its detection.

The driver, identified as Mallam Abbas Umoru, was taken into military custody for questioning.

Preliminary findings reportedly indicate that the recovered items were being transported to terrorist enclaves around the Katsina-Zamfara border.

Security sources said the interception could disrupt the movement and supply chains of terrorist groups in the area, particularly given the importance of motorcycles for mobility and fuel for sustaining their activities.

The suspect and recovered items remain in military custody as investigators work to establish the intended recipients and identify other individuals allegedly involved in the logistics network.
