Troops kill Bello Turji’s second-in-command, other commanders

The troops of Defence Headquarters have neutralised popular terrorist leader, Bello Turji’s second-in-command, Aminu Kanawa, and other major commanders.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Director of Defence Media Cooperation, Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.

Buba stated: “Sequel to the ongoing military onslaught on terrorists in the North West region between 20-21 January 2025, troops of operation Fansan Yamma have neutralized the second-in-command of notorious terrorist leader Bello Turji namely, Aminu Kanawa.

“The troops also inflicted terminal injuries on some of Bello Turji’s close allies namely: Dosso (Bello Turji’s younger brother) and Danbokolo (one of Turji’s closest allies).

“Additionally, troops neutralised several of Bello Turji’s key commanders namely: Abu Dan Shehu, Jabbi Dogo, Dan Kane, Basiru Yellow, Kabiru Gebe, Bello Buba, and Dan Inna Kahon-Saniya-Yafi-Bahaushe, among others.”

Troops kill Turji’s son, many terrorists in Zamfara

The defence spokesman further revealed that the troops also neutralised over 24 fleeing terrorists from Bello Turji’s camp around Gebe and Isa Local Government Areas of Sokoto state, as well as around Gidan Rijiya in Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Buba added: “The troops also neutralised another notable terrorist during the onslaught on Bello Turji’s Enclave around Fakai high ground.

“A terrorist identified as Suleiman, and a loyalist of a late notorious terrorist leader, Halilu Sububu.

“Suleiman was leading a reinforcement team to rescue Bello Turji’s camp which was in disarray when he was eliminated during the firefight.

“The death of Bello Turji’s second-in-command, close allies, commanders and combatants is a significant blow to the terrorist network in the North West as well as their military and fighting capabilities.

“The troops are not relenting until the terrorists are completely destroyed.

“Troops operations are aimed at creating an atmosphere of safety and security for all citizens.”
