Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 202 Battalion, working alongside an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team, have recovered and safely destroyed four improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted along a roadside in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.
Security sources disclosed that the operation was carried out following intelligence provided by members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) on May 6 about suspicious objects buried near a roadside in Juderi village.
According to the sources, troops stationed at Foxtrot 3 Bravo swiftly responded to the alert and secured the area while the EOD team conducted a thorough search of the surroundings.
During the operation, four buried IEDs were discovered, recovered and safely disposed of to prevent possible casualties among civilians and security personnel.
Authorities said the timely intervention helped avert what could have been a deadly attack along the route commonly used by residents and commuters in the area.
Security sources added that troops had intensified clearance and counter-IED operations across vulnerable locations in Borno State as part of ongoing efforts to sustain pressure on terrorist groups operating in the region.
Residents were also encouraged to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information on suspicious activities or objects.
