Troops repel Boko Haram attack on naval base in Borno

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) successfully repelled a pre-dawn attack by suspected Boko Haram insurgents on the Naval Base Lake Chad, located at Fish Dam in Baga, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency platform focused on the Lake Chad region, the terrorists launched the assault at 1 a.m. on Wednesday, targeting newly procured swamp buggies acquired by the Borno State Government to support waterways clearance in the area.

A statement from the Nigerian Army confirmed that the attempted infiltration led to a fierce two-hour gun battle. Troops, supported by coordinated land, maritime, and air components, engaged the terrorists, ultimately forcing them to retreat.

“The terrorists began their attack around 2 a.m., aiming to destroy the swamp buggies stationed at the Naval Base. However, they met stiff resistance from naval personnel, with reinforcements from Baga contributing to the effort,” the army stated on its official X account.

During the clash, several insurgents were neutralized, and materials for improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were recovered. Despite the intense fighting, the army reported only minimal damage—a destroyed ambulance, two other vehicles, and injuries to some personnel.

The air component of OPHK has since launched pursuit operations to track and eliminate fleeing terrorists along the waterways in the Lake Chad region.
