Troops repel terrorist attack in Sambisa, recover weapons

Troops of Operation Desert Sanity under the Joint Task Force North-East, Operation Hadin Kai, have repelled a terrorist attack on their position in Borno State, killing at least two insurgents and recovering weapons and communication equipment.

Security sources said the attack occurred at about 2:20 a.m. on Sunday, when terrorists attempted to overrun special forces troops conducting clearance operations in the Sambisa Forest.

The troops engaged the attackers in a fierce firefight and successfully repelled the assault without recording any casualties.

According to the report, no soldier was killed or wounded during the encounter, and no military equipment was damaged.

“Following the repulsion of the attack, troops conducted exploitation of the area where two terrorist corpses were sighted with traces of blood, indicating that the insurgents evacuated some of their dead and wounded,” a security source said.

Items recovered from the scene included one PKT machine gun, three rocket-propelled grenade bombs, 51 rounds of 7.62 x 51mm ammunition, and 108 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm ammunition.

Troops also recovered two Baofeng communication radios, one Redmi Android mobile phone, and three Airtel SIM cards believed to belong to the insurgents.

Sources said the troops remain in high morale and continue clearance operations in the area as part of the ongoing Operation Desert Sanity.
