Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 3 Brigade have rescued eight out of 10 guests abducted by suspected terrorists during a wedding ceremony in Dabawa, Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State.
A credible source at the Army Headquarters revealed that on Thursday gunmen reportedly dressed in military camouflage, stormed the event on Wednesday and forcefully took the victims away.
Following a distress alert, troops who were positioned along the Yankwada River line quickly moved to the area and engaged the fleeing attackers at Garu Village in neighbouring Katsina State.
The soldiers pursued the assailants along the Katsina–Gidan Mutum Daya road axis before losing contact.
According to the source, eight of the abducted girls were rescued during the operation and safely reunited with their families, while efforts are ongoing to locate and rescue the remaining two victims.
He added that security operations have continued in the area to ensure the safe return of those still missing and to prevent further attacks.
