Truck damages high-tension power lines, poles in Ogun community

Residents of Arepo in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State have been urged to exercise caution after a truck accidentally brought down a high-tension electricity line, damaging two power poles and disrupting electricity infrastructure in the area.

The incident occurred around 9 p.m. on Monday when the truck pulled down the high-tension line supplying the WiseBuyers Supermarket Distribution Transformer.

In a public notice issued on Tuesday, the Secretary of the Electricity Committee of the Arepo Area Community Development Council, Akinlolu Akinpelumi, said the accident left one electricity pole leaning dangerously, with live cables hanging low and posing a serious threat to motorists, pedestrians, businesses and residents.

According to him, the damaged infrastructure has created a significant safety risk, prompting authorities to advise members of the public to steer clear of the affected area.

“We strongly advise everyone to stay away from the damaged poles and all fallen or hanging electrical cables. Do not attempt to touch, move or drive over any of the affected cables or electrical equipment,” Akinpelumi said.

He disclosed that the incident had been reported to Ikeja Electric, adding that technical teams were being engaged to secure the site and restore the damaged infrastructure.

Akinpelumi noted that the extent of the damage could interrupt electricity supply to customers connected to the WiseBuyers Distribution Transformer until repairs are completed.

He appealed to residents to remain calm, cooperate with emergency and technical personnel, and promptly report any additional hazards in the area as restoration work continues.
