Two Osun senators quit PDP amid Adeleke defection rumours

Amid swirling rumours of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s possible defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), two senators from Osun State have officially resigned from the party.

Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi, representing Osun East, and Senator Olubiyi Oluwole Fadeyi, representing Osun Central, both tendered their resignation letters, citing deep internal crises and unresolved divisions within the PDP at the national level.

Fadahunsi’s letter, dated July 12, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 4, Obokun Local Government Area, attributed his decision to “irreparable, irreconcilable differences and protracted legal battles” that have plagued the party since the 2023 general elections.

“This was concluded after consultation and engagement with my political associates, family, and friends,” he stated.

Similarly, Senator Fadeyi, in a letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 3, Oke Ejigbo, Ila-Orangun, echoed the same reasons for his exit.

He cited the persistent court cases and internal divisions that have fractured the party, making continued membership untenable.

“These differences have created factions within the party, especially at the national level, and after wide consultations, I have chosen to resign,” he wrote.

The resignations come as speculation intensifies around Governor Adeleke’s political future, with several aides and party loyalists reportedly declaring readiness to follow him should he leave the PDP.

However, Senator Lere Oyewumi, representing Osun West, has not joined his colleagues in exiting the party.

According to sources close to him, Oyewumi, who currently serves as Deputy Minority Leader in the Senate, is unlikely to leave the PDP due to his strategic position within the National Assembly.

The developments mark a significant shake-up in Osun State’s political landscape and further highlight the internal turmoil within the PDP at the national level.
