Two students of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Anambra State, have been found dead at one of the private hostels in the institution.

It was gathered that the bodies of the students, a male, and a female, were discovered on Sunday after one of the rooms of the private hostel was forced open following a report to the police by the parents of the dead female student.

The parents of the dead female student, identified as Adaeze, were said to have reported to the police after they called her phone line for some days without any response.

It was gathered that the frightened parents in company with the police operatives stormed the hostel to check on her, but they met her door tightly locked.

Two students were however found dead in the room after the door was forced open.

The incident was confirmed by the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga.

The police spokesperson disclosed that the students were suspected to have died from carbon monoxide poisoning from generator fumes.

Ikenga added that the death of the two students will be confirmed after autopsy.

“There was no stench. The girl was not answering calls which got parents worried. They reported to the police who forced the door open. No mark of violence on the bodies.

“They died apparently from carbon monoxide poisoning from generator fumes. The generator was found in a closed place facing the room. The cause of death will be ascertained after autopsy,” the police spokesperson said.
