UAE intercepts 132 ballistic missiles, 195 drones in Iranian attack

The United Arab Emirates has confirmed that its air defence systems intercepted the majority of ballistic missiles and drones launched toward its territory during escalating hostilities with Iran, describing the barrage as a grave threat to regional stability.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the UAE Ministry of Defence said that since the start of the Iranian attack, 137 ballistic missiles had been detected, with 132 successfully destroyed. Five missiles reportedly fell into the sea.

The ministry added that 209 drones were detected, of which 195 were intercepted. Fourteen drones landed within the country’s territory and waters, causing what officials described as minor material damage.

“Debris from the intercepted missiles and drones fell in various locations, resulting in limited damage to some civilian facilities,” the ministry stated, noting that emergency response teams acted swiftly to secure affected areas and protect residents.

The government condemned the attack as a violation of national sovereignty and international law, calling it a significant escalation that endangers civilian lives and undermines regional security.

Officials stressed that the UAE reserves the right to take all necessary measures to safeguard its territory and defend national interests, adding that the country remains on high alert.

Minister of State for International Cooperation, H.E. Reem Al Hashimy, reaffirmed the government’s readiness to confront emerging threats. Authorities also urged the public to rely on official sources for updates and avoid spreading unverified information.

The development comes amid intensifying tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. Iran has vowed retaliation following joint US-Israeli airstrikes on its territory.

In a related incident, Iranian drones struck the United States Embassy compound in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, causing minor material damage and a small fire, according to Saudi authorities. No casualties were reported, and the embassy building was said to be empty at the time of the attack.
