Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has approved N3.659 billion for the payment of pensions, gratuities and death benefits to 1,339 retirees and families of deceased public servants.
The latest approval covers beneficiaries under the state’s Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS) and Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).
The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Ahmed Maiyaki, disclosed this in a statement, saying the latest payment brings the total pension-related disbursements by the administration since May 2023 to N21.455 billion.
According to him, the cumulative payments have benefited 9,683 retirees and eligible families across Kaduna State and its local government councils.
Maiyaki said N515 million of the latest approval would go to 210 retirees from the local government service under the Defined Benefit Scheme.
He added that N3.144 billion had been approved under the Contributory Pension Scheme for 1,129 retirees.
The CPS beneficiaries comprise 402 retirees from the state service and 727 from local government councils.
The commissioner said the latest payment was part of efforts by the administration to reduce outstanding pension liabilities and improve the sustainability of the state’s pension system.
He said the intervention also formed part of broader public financial management reforms designed to promote fiscal discipline, transparency and accountability in the handling of pension obligations.
Maiyaki said the administration would continue to address outstanding liabilities while strengthening mechanisms for timely pension payments.
“Governor Uba Sani remains committed to ensuring that those who devoted their productive years to the service of Kaduna State receive their legitimate entitlements with dignity.
“Pension payment is not a favour; it is an obligation to our retirees and the families of deceased public servants,” he said.
He added that the state would sustain pension reforms aimed at providing greater financial security and dignity for public servants after retirement.
