Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has described Rijana settlement along the Abuja–Kaduna Expressway in Kachia Local Government Area as the epicentre of insecurity and banditry in Nigeria.
Governor Sani recalled that his predecessor, Nasir El-Rufai, had proposed relocating the Rijana community during his administration, citing allegations that the area harboured criminal elements.
The governor made the remarks during a visit to Kurmin Wali community in Kajuru Local Government Area, where suspected bandits abducted 177 worshippers from three churches during Sunday services.
He assured residents that efforts were underway to secure the safe return of all those abducted.
Governor Sani also appealed to the Federal Government to establish a military base in Kurmin Wali, noting the community’s close proximity to Rijana and the security risks associated with the area.
The abduction was initially denied by the Kaduna State Government and the state police command.
However, confirmation came on Tuesday after the names of the 177 victims were officially released.
