Uba Sani lauds Tinubu as FG approves N1.17trn rail, road projects in Kaduna

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu following the Federal Government’s approval of major infrastructure projects valued at over N1.17 trillion, describing the move as transformative for the state’s economy and security.

Sani said the projects approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Thursday, April 30, 2026, would significantly reshape mobility, enhance safety, and stimulate economic growth across Kaduna.

Top on the list is the Kaduna Light Rail Project, a 50-kilometre metropolitan network estimated at N1 trillion. The rail system will cover a 30-kilometre stretch from Rigachikun to Sabon Tasha and a 20-kilometre line linking Millennium City to Rigasa.

The federal government also approved the reconstruction of the 122-kilometre Mando–Kaduna–Birnin Gwari road at a cost of N178 billion, a project expected to improve connectivity and address longstanding security and economic challenges in the area.

Sani, in a statement on Friday, described the light rail initiative as a “historic and catalytic” intervention that aligns with Kaduna’s broader transport development strategy, which includes a 24-kilometre Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system currently under construction.

Sani noted that Kaduna has taken a leading role in Northern Nigeria by developing a comprehensive transport policy focused on efficiency, safety, affordability, and environmental sustainability, including the introduction of compressed natural gas-powered buses and modern transit infrastructure.

The governor said Kaduna’s selection as one of the few states to embark on a light rail system reflects growing confidence in the state’s development vision and capacity to deliver large-scale projects.

“Through initiatives such as subsidised Compressed Natural Gas buses, modern terminals, and structured transit corridors, we are systematically positioning Kaduna as a premier hub for transportation and logistics,” he stated.

He also highlighted the significance of the Mando–Birnin Gwari road, recalling Tinubu’s pre-election visit to the area and his promise to address its infrastructural challenges.

Sani noted that the road project would boost agricultural activities, improve security, and reconnect communities that have long faced isolation.

Sani reaffirmed the Kaduna State Government’s commitment to ensuring the successful execution of the projects, describing them as critical foundations for a more prosperous and connected state.

“We thank Mr. President for his steadfast commitment to Kaduna State and to the equitable development of our nation,” the governor said.
