Uba Sani reaffirms commitment to pensioners welfare

Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare, dignity and security of pensioners and retirees in the state, pledging to fully address outstanding pension liabilities inherited by his government.

The governor made this known on Friday during a courtesy visit to the headquarters of the National Pension Commission (PENCOM) in Abuja, where he met with the Director General, Ms. Omolola Bridget Oloworaran, and members of her management team.

Governor Sani said pensioners, having devoted their most productive years to public service, deserve certainty, respect and the assurance that the government they served will stand by them in retirement.

He stressed that his administration considers pension reform and payment a moral and governance responsibility.

He disclosed that Kaduna State has so far cleared over ₦13.5 billion out of the more than ₦24 billion pension liabilities inherited by the current administration, assuring that efforts are ongoing to settle the remaining balance.

The governor also called for deeper collaboration between the Kaduna State Government and PENCOM to strengthen pension administration, ensure full compliance with the Contributory Pension Scheme and resolve long-standing structural challenges affecting retirees.

In her response, Ms. Oloworaran commended the Kaduna State Government for its infrastructure development, people-centred reforms and deliberate efforts to tackle pension liabilities.

She assured the governor of PENCOM’s continued support through policy guidance and technical collaboration to promote transparency, integrity and sustainability in pension administration.

Governor Sani further highlighted measures introduced by his administration to cushion the effects of the rising cost of living on residents, particularly pensioners.

He noted that the state’s Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) mass transit scheme has been declared free indefinitely to reduce transportation costs and improve mobility.

According to the governor, his vision is to build a Kaduna State where service is honoured, retirement is secure and governance is driven by responsibility and compassion.

The visit, he said, underscores the administration’s resolve to place pensioners’ welfare at the centre of public policy and governance in Kaduna State.
