Uba Sani’s policies putting farmers first — Agriculture commissioner

The Uba Sani administration has continued to prioritise policies that place farmers at the centre of development, the Commissioner for Agriculture in Kaduna State, Murtala Mohammed Dabo, has said.

Dabo made the remark on Thursday during the flag-off of the distribution of livestock support packages to 5,000 cooperative groups across the state.

In his welcome address, the commissioner said the governor had demonstrated strong commitment to transforming agriculture from subsistence farming into a major driver of economic growth.

According to him, the approach represents a shift aimed at creating jobs, generating wealth and sustaining livelihoods in communities across Kaduna State.

He described the governor as a champion of farmers, noting that the livestock intervention programme was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the agricultural sector.

Dabo added that the initiative was designed to support hardworking farmers and ensure the livestock sector plays a vital role in promoting food security, economic diversification and rural prosperity.

“This livestock empowerment initiative is part of a broader vision to make Kaduna State the agricultural and livestock capital of Northern Nigeria, where productivity is matched with innovation and government support reaches those who need it most,” he said.

The commissioner further explained that deliberate measures were taken to ensure that the farmers selected for the programme were genuine, organised and capable of effectively utilising the livestock assets being distributed.

He also commended farmer associations, traditional institutions, local governments and development partners for their support in strengthening the implementation of the programme.

Dabo urged the beneficiaries to use the resources responsibly, noting that the tools and livestock provided should serve not only as instruments of productivity but also as symbols of trust and responsibility.
