Unilever Nigeria has awarded scholarships to academically outstanding children of its non-management employees as part of its long-running education support programme.
The scholarship scheme, which has operated for more than 30 years, provides financial support for beneficiaries from Junior Secondary School through Senior Secondary School Year Three, subject to satisfactory academic performance.
The beneficiaries were selected through a competitive aptitude examination administered by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) at Unilever Nigeria’s manufacturing sites in Agbara and Oregun.
Under the scheme, new applicants must rank among the top 25 candidates and score at least 50 per cent in the aptitude test to qualify for the scholarship.
Existing beneficiaries are required to maintain a minimum 50 per cent average in their final examinations and obtain at least five credits, including Mathematics and English Language, in a recognised secondary school final examination at their first attempt.
Speaking on the initiative, Unilever Nigeria’s Human Relations Director, Michael Duah, said the scholarship was part of the company’s commitment to the welfare of its employees and their families.
Duah said the programme had, for more than three decades, supported employees’ children while encouraging academic excellence.
“Education is a powerful catalyst for progress—opening doors, expanding possibilities and empowering young people with the foundation to shape a brighter future,” he said.
He added that the company’s continued investment in the scholarship scheme was aimed at supporting the aspirations and potential of the next generation of Nigerian leaders.
