The Governing Council of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) in Bauchi State has dismissed a lecturer at the institution, Dr Usman Aliyu, over sexual harassment.
The Director of Information and Public Relations of the university, Zailani Bappa, made this known on Thursday, April 24, 2025.
Bappa said the approval of the dismissal of the lecturer was made during the regular meeting of the institution held on April 11, after Aliyu was found guilty of having sexually harassed a married female postgraduate student of the institution.
Bappa disclosed that the postgraduate student is from the Department of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Engineering Technology of the institution.

He said: “Yes, it’s true, and that was because the lecturer was confirmed guilty of the offence by the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee of the institution.
“The dismissal was in accordance with the chapter 3, item f, i, (o) of the Senior Staff Conditions of Service of the University.
“The council has subsequently approved his dismissal from the service of the University with immediate effect.
“In view of this, he has been directed to hand over all the property of the university in his possession to his Head of Department and identification card to the Chief Security Officer of the university.”
