Popular Nigerian singer Azeez Fashola, fondly called Naira Marley, has again denied involvement in the death of his former signee, Ilerioluwa Aloba, well known as Mohbad.
Mohbad died at the age of 27 on September 12, 2023.
Naira Marley was later accused of sponsoring several attacks on Mohbad, with many claiming the attacks were responsible for the singer’s death.
Naira Marley and music promoter Sam Larry were arrested in October 2023 alongside other suspects over allegations that they were involved in Mohbad’s demise.
They were, however, released on bail in November 2023 after spending over five weeks in detention.
In February 2025, a Magistrate’s Court sitting in the Yaba area of Lagos State acquitted Naira Marley and Sam Larry of blame over Mohbad’s death.
The court declared that the defendants had “no case to answer” in connection with Mohbad’s death.

Speaking in a video released on YouTube on Wednesday, August 20, Naira Marley said he had not seen Mohbad for a year before his death.
He said: “People started accusing me and posting videos from the NDLEA incident, the fight he had with his manager on October 4, 2022.
“I called Zino and we drove to Amsterdam. We could not shoot the video anymore. We did not even have time to mourn Mohbad properly because people were blaming us for what we did not do.”
The singer also disclosed that he learnt that Mohbad was using an illicit substance, Ice, on June 7, 2020.
Naira Marley, who announced Mohbad and Zinoleesky as some of his new signees on Marlian Music in 2019, added: “I wasn’t angry, I called him and advised him and told him about the danger. He said he got into it because of stress but said he would stay out of it. I didn’t force him to do anything.”
