VIDEO: Nigerian woman denied U.S. entry after Instagram check

A Nigerian businesswoman has been denied entry into the United States after U.S. immigration officials checked her Instagram account.

The woman was denied entry into the U.S. despite holding a valid visa.

The businesswoman disclosed this via the tearful video recorded on her return flight to Nigeria.

The woman, in the video shared online, revealed that she had travelled to Texas to attend a trade fair, using a tourist visa.

She however said she was detained for 24 hours upon arrival and subjected to intense questioning in the country.

She revealed that her social media accounts were checked by immigration officers who examined her private messages with customers.

The businesswoman said: “I was denied entrance into the U.S. and that is because my visa is a B1–B2 visa which is for tourismbbusiness meetings.

“When I landed, I was detained for 24 hours and I was questioned. I told them I was going to exhibit but I did not know any better because the U.S. has your data and your Instagram page.

“Apparently, my Instagram says different. They even checked all my messages with my customers. The customers I have been telling that we are coming, they can pick up and all of that.”

The United States State Department recently said it has restarted the suspended process for foreigners applying for visas.

The Star had reported that the department said all applicants, including students, will now be required to unlock their social media accounts for government review.

The department said consular officers will be on the lookout for posts and messages that could be deemed hostile to the United States, its government, culture, institutions, or founding principles.

It said a refusal to do so could be a sign they are trying to evade the requirement or hide their online activity.
