Video: Son-mother feud over household finances divides Nigerians online

A video showing a heated argument between a mother and her son has gone viral on social media, drawing strong reactions from Nigerians.

The clip, shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, January 7, by user @dammiedammie35, captures the son confronting his mother over her lack of financial contribution to the household, particularly regarding school fees.

In the video, the son accused his mother of never paying school fees, saying: “I don’t blame you, it’s because daddy travelled that’s why you are doing this rubbish. Have you ever paid school fees for anybody in this house? You have never contributed shishi; it’s daddy that pays for everything.”

The confrontation intensified as he repeatedly asked his mother if she had ever paid school fees, to which she admitted she had not.

He also reminded her that she had only paid his school fees once.

At one point, another voice in the video suggested the mother had previously contributed to practical lessons.

The son dismissed this, claiming the school had covered the costs.

Toward the end of the exchange, the mother warned him: “You see yourself on the internet.”

He responded nonchalantly: “Put me now, what concern me.”

The argument concluded without resolution, leaving viewers divided over issues of parental responsibility, accountability, and financial expectations within families.

Since the video surfaced, reactions online have been mixed, with some defending the mother while others criticised the son’s approach.
