The family of Jafar Umar, a member of the Hunters Vigilante group, has demanded justice after he was allegedly shot dead by a fellow operative during a patrol in Plateau State.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday in K-Vom, located in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Security sources said Umar was reportedly shot by his colleague, identified as Nanchit, following a minor disagreement while both men were on routine patrol.
Speaking to journalists, the deceased’s father, Alhaji Umaru Umaru, described the killing as heartbreaking and called for those responsible to be held accountable.
“I received a call early Saturday morning from security operatives informing me that my son had been killed.
“When I arrived, I confirmed that the victim was indeed my son,” he said.
He noted that the suspected shooter had previously been a neighbour of the family, making the incident even more painful.
Umaru said the family is devastated by the loss and urged authorities to ensure justice is served, stressing the importance of maintaining community peace and preventing similar tragedies in the future.
