Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior has issued an apology following his reaction to being substituted during the club’s 2-1 win over Barcelona.
Vinicius was visibly angered by the decision to withdraw him during Sunday’s El Clasico, storming straight down the tunnel.
Reports later emerged that the Brazil winger threatened to leave Real Madrid as he left the pitch, stating to head coach Xabi Alonso: “Me? Coach? Coach, me? It’s always me. I’m leaving the team. It’s better I leave.”
Vinicius later returned to the bench and was involved in the on-pitch scuffles that clouded the end of the game.
The 25-year-old forward clashed with Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal, earning a yellow card.
However, the Brazil international, in a statement shared on X, disclosed that he also apologised to the team during training on Wednesday.

Vinicius wrote: “Today I want to apologize to all the Madridistas for my reaction when I was substituted in the Clasico.
“Just as I have already done in person during today’s training, I also want to apologize again to my teammates, the club, and the president.
“Sometimes passion gets the better of me because I always want to win and help my team. My competitive character stems from the love I feel for this club and everything it represents.
“I promise to keep fighting every second for the good of Real Madrid, as I have done since the first day. 🤍 @realmadrid”
