White House chief of staff Susie Wiles diagnosed with breast cancer

White House chief of staff Susie Wiles has been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer.

United States President Donald Trump announced this on Monday, March 16, 2026.

Wiles, 68, a longstanding fixture of Trump’s orbit, has been his chief of staff since he took office for his second term in 2025.

Trump first announced her diagnosis in a Truth Social post. calling her prognosis “excellent” and noting that she would continue working as his chief of staff while she undergoes treatment.

Trump wrote: “During the treatment period, she will be spending virtually full time at the White House, which makes me, as President, very happy!

“Her Strength and her Commitment to continue doing the job she loves, and does so well, while undergoing treatment, tells you everything you need to know about her,” Trump wrote.

He also described Wiles as one of his “closest and most important advisors.”

In a statement, Wiles said she was diagnosed last week and is grateful to have a team of doctors that detected the cancer early.

She said she felt encouraged by her prognosis and thanked Trump for his “support and encouragement.”

“Nearly one in eight women in the United States will face this diagnosis. Every day, these women continue to raise their families, go to work, and serve their communities with strength and determination. I now join their ranks,” Wiles said.

The first woman to serve as a president’s chief of staff, Trump frequently talks about Wiles publicly and commends her power in the White House.

He has called her the “most powerful woman in the world” and nicknamed her “Susie Trump.”

Wiles joined Trump at an event at the White House shortly after her diagnosis became public, sitting next to him at a meeting of Kennedy Center board members.

During that meeting, Trump noted that Wiles had already started treatment.

Wiles has had a long political career in Republican politics, working for a wide spectrum of politicians from the former Utah Senator Mitt Romney to Florida Senator Rick Scott, before joining Trump’s political campaign in 2016 as the Florida campaign chair.

She became his campaign manager alongside Chris LaCivita in 2022, ahead of Trump’s win in 2024.
