American rapper Cardi B, born Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, has said she does not believe she could practise Islam, explaining that she struggles to go long hours without food.
In a viral video circulating on social media, the award-winning artist reacted to Muslims observing Ramadan, admitting that she finds it difficult to stay even three hours after waking up without eating.
Cardi B said hunger quickly affects her body and mood, revealing that skipping meals often leaves her feeling unwell, triggers headaches and makes her irritable. She joked that God “knew not to make her a Muslim,” noting that she lacks the discipline required to abstain from food and water for extended periods during fasting.
The rapper added that when she is hungry, she prefers to keep to herself — sometimes distancing even from her children — and avoids using her phone because of how much her mood changes.
Despite the candid remarks, Cardi B expressed admiration for Muslims who fast during Ramadan, saying she respects their devotion and commitment to sacrificing food, water and other comforts in worship.
