A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Micheal Osaretin, has donated boreholes to two communities, as well as a signpost and some school uniforms to a school in Akure.
The communities that benefitted from the boreholes are: Origere and Ajipowo communities and Ogbe High School, all in Oda town of Akure South Local Government area of the state.
Osaretin said at the inauguration of the projects on Monday that it had always been his dream to give back and make impact wherever he found himself.
“Before I came for service, I always saw corps members doing projects. When I came here, I met the regent and I saw this place and felt it’s an extra work to give back to the community. I am happy my dream came to reality,” he said.
Osaretin said that more of such projects, especially for a community that had not felt the presence of government over the years would make the country a better place to live.
Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, said he was delighted to witness the occasion and noted that the corps member’s gesture was a demonstration of his passion for the wellbeing of humanity and advancement of educational system.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Lola Amuda, Akeredolu said the projects would add value to the lives of students and the entire communities where the projects were sited.
“I want to implore members of these communities, as well as the school management of Ogbe High School, Oda to ensure that the facilities provided are used judiciously and are properly maintained,” he said.
The State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Victoria Ani, thanked the state government for creating the enabling environment, especially, security that allowed the youth corps member to even know the plight of such communities.
Ani, represented by the Akure Zonal Inspector, Mr. Francis Adebayo, noted that youth corps members were veritable tools for national development and appealed to the beneficiaries of the project to make judicious use of them.
The regent/traditional ruler of Oda town, Oba Adeyinka Akosile, appreciated the corps member, adding that he did not betray the trust she had in him.
Secretary of the community, Mr. Kunle Adesuyi, said the whole community was happy with the projects and urged the state government to provide electricity for them.
“We believe that water is life, Michael has given us life. We are using this opportunity to ask for more, even if it’s solar-powered electricity, government should give to this community as we don’t have light,” he said.
