Why I’m not seeking remarriage —Yvonne Jegede

Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has revealed that she is not actively looking to remarry, describing marriage as “overrated” based on her personal experiences and observations.

Speaking in a recent interview on Naija FM, Jegede reflected on the pressures and challenges often associated with marriage.

She noted that she has seen couples date for over a decade only to have short-lived marriages, saying, “I’ve seen so many people date for 15 years, 17 years, and they marry for two years, three years, and then break up.”

The actress explained that while she isn’t completely closing the door on marriage, she has learned not to make it central to her happiness.

“If it comes, fine, but I’m not looking for it. I have learned not to say never,” she said.

Jegede also highlighted issues of intolerance within marriages, adding, “A lot of intolerance dey. The wife will be claiming her rights, the husband will do the same.” She encouraged people to prioritize their own happiness: “Do what makes you happy and what works for you. And if you find the person you like, make una just dey.”

Yvonne was previously married to actor and producer Olakunle ‘Abounce’ Fawole, with whom she has a son. Their marriage ended in 2019, less than a year after it began.

Her candid remarks have sparked online discussions among Nigerians on marriage, relationships, and evolving social values.
