Wike: 2026 will bring major projects, better services to FCT

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured residents that 2026 will bring greater infrastructural development, improved services and stronger governance across the territory.

In his New Year message on Thursday, Wike thanked residents for their cooperation in the past year, saying their support helped the administration achieve major milestones despite challenges.

He said the FCT Administration had laid the groundwork for key projects across education, health, transportation, agriculture, security and the judiciary, and many of them would be commissioned this year.

According to the minister, schools, roads, bridges, health centres, transportation hubs, and new security infrastructure are among the projects expected to positively impact daily life for residents.

Wike added that the administration would mark President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s third anniversary by showcasing visible achievements driven by the Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that development is now extending beyond Abuja city to areas such as Abaji, Kuje and Kwali.

Looking ahead, the minister urged residents to embrace diligence, discipline and unity as the FCT prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary, describing the milestone as a symbol of national resilience and peaceful coexistence.

Wike also reminded eligible voters of the forthcoming Area Council elections, encouraging them to vote responsibly while assuring that the FCT Administration will support a peaceful, free and fair process.

He further pledged that Abuja would provide a conducive environment for political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“As we move into this amazing year, let us do so with determination and unity,” he said, wishing residents a peaceful and prosperous 2026.
