Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has appointed 28,000 Special Assistants for all the political units in the state.
This is just as Wike approved N1 billion for emergency relief for flood victims in Rivers State.
The latest development, which comes barely 24 hours after Wike appointed 14,000 advisers, 319 Ward Liaison Officers and 40 Local Government Area Liaison Officers, was made known via a statement issued on Wednesday by the governor’s Special Assistant on Media, Kelvin Ebiri.
He said the money was to enable the vulnerable families to cope with the devastating flood that had affected their homes and farmlands, forcing them to relocate to safer places.

The governor, who empathised with the flood victims, also set up a task force to coordinate the distribution of relief materials to the affected communities.
The six-man task force was headed by the Permanent Secretary, Special Services Bureau (SSB), Dr George Nwaeke.
Other members included Mrs Inime Aguma (Secretary); the Chairman of Ahoada West LGA, Mr Hope Ikiriko; the Chairman of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA, Vincent Job; and the Director of Administration, Ministry of Special Duties, Mr Chukwuemeka Onowu.
The members of the task force were, however, directed to meet with Governor Wike on October 13.
